Follow these steps below to use V-structures Column Tool v2.0
- Before using V-structures Column Tool, make sure that the ETABS model is in kN-m. To check the actual units the model is using follow these steps:
a. Go to File > Export > Export e2k> Save

b. A pop-up message will appear stating the current units

2. Add SI Rebar Set
a. Go to Define>Section Properties > Reinforcing Bar Sizes>Add Common Bar Set

b. Select SI

3. Make sure all Reinforced Column Definitions used in the ETABS Model are assigned as “Reinforcement to be designed”.

4. Select Reinforced Concrete Columns you wanted to be included in the schedule. Only column frames should be selected. No joints. Run ETABS analysis and design the columns. It’s advisable to select only column that are safe and not showing any failed checks. Columns having warning in Delta NS can still be selected.

5. Open V-Structures Column Tool v2.0
6. Required Area Multiplier. In case the user wants to add an additional 5% on the required reinforcement based on ETABS design results, input 1.05 otherwise use 1.0 only.

7. Apply stiffness Modifier in the column Definition. Check Yes if column modifiers are assigned within the column definition otherwise uncheck.

8. Create Column Types Button. By pressing this, the tool will automatically create column types based on different column sizes and as per required reinforcement in ETABS model. These types will be used in creating column definitions with reinforcement and “Reinforcement to be checked” option checked and assigning it to corresponding column in the model.

9. Export Column Details to Excel. User can export the created column types. The tool will show types highlighted in RED if the reinforcement provided is less than the required. The tool will used reinforcement spacing of 150mm and 100mm to satisfy required reinforcement area. If the required reinforcement is more than the reinforcement created using 100mm the user has the option to edit manually the column types in the created excel file.

10. Import Excel Table. If the user is satisfied with the column types, just copy all the data from the excel except the 1st row and click import excel Table. This will update the table in the tool.

11. Run Column Scheduling. This button will create column schedule in ETABS.

a. The tool will create column definitions in ETABS based on the column types you have inputted.
b. The tool will assigned this column definition on each corresponding columns.
c. The tool will group columns based on the column definition assigned. Grouping is considered from bottom story to the top most story.

d. The tool will generate another sets of column definitions based on number of Column Types after the scheduling/grouping of columns.

12. After the run. Run ETABS analysis and column design. You can easily check PMM Ratio of the Column. This will give you the actual capacity of the column as per rebar arrangement.

13. Column Layout and Schedule Tab.

a. Creation of Column Schedule.
i. Extract Frame Definitions in ETABS. Pressing button will extract all Reinforced concrete section definitions in ETABS.

ii. Select Sections and press double arrow button to the right.

iii. If you want to remove some sections, select and press the double arrow to the left.

iv. Select and Check which Framing Type

v. Create Schedule in Autocad. Pressing this will create schedule in Autocad.
A. Created column schedule is from bottom to top

B. Rectangular and circular columns are considered.

C. Planted columns are also reflected in the created schedule.

b. Create Column Layout.. Pressing this will create schedule in Autocad.
i. Import Story Name. Pressing this button extract the story names define in ETABS.
ii. Using the Drop Down option, select the story for the column layout.
iii. Create Column Layout. Creates column layout as per ETABS modeling showing as well the column label.
